Hairloss
Our hair has a role as a physical barrier and protective coating from damaging sun rays or debris. Since Hair is used for individual differentiation and for beautification, any pathological condition seriously affects the perception of personal health as well as self-esteem.
Trichology as a subspecialty of dermatology strives to offer the most advanced and newest evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (Trichoscopy, Trichogram, LLLT, OXYHAIR) and an individual patient-tailored custom-made treatment reaching the highest international standards for the entire spectrum of hair diseases begging from common androgenetic alopecia, seasonal- and post-covid hair loss to challenging cases of cicatricial- or post-chemotherapy-alopecia.
Hairloss or alopecia is mostly located on the scalp or on the face and is usually rare and less noticeable on the body.
Hairloss and Baldness concern men and women of different ages. 25% of Men start losing their hair by the age of 20-25 years old, while this percentage goes up to 50% by the age of 35-45.
In Women usually begins in 35% after the first pregnancy or in the range after the age of 30-35.
Throughout history, men have searched for the exact cause of baldness, and it’s mainly in the last couple of decades that we have started to understand the different processes responsible for hair loss.
As a diagnostic method of high significance, the Trichogram represents a semi‐invasive technique for the evaluation of patients with hair loss that allows the microscopic examination of hairs plucked from the scalp and provides information about the state of the proximal end of the hair shaft and the distal end.
Here are the main know types of hair loss:
– Lichen planopilaris
– Discoid Lupus erythematosus
– Folliculitis decalvans
Hair texture problems
Usually, hair texture problems can be caused not only by metabolic or hormonal disorders, but also by overexposure to heat or strong chemicals, or by many of the other stresses and strains to which we daily subject our hair.
In such cases, cooperation with the hairdresser is obviously important, and it indicates that trichologists’ training overlaps both the medical and the cosmetic in areas not normally covered by either doctors or hairdressers.
Hair texture problems usually respond very well to appropriate personalized advice and long-term holistic treatment, as the cause(s), once discovered, can often be reduced or eliminated altogether.
